¿Cómo permitir que el usuario elija la image con Swift?

Estoy escribiendo mi primera aplicación de iOS (solo para iPhone) con Swift. La vista principal de la aplicación debe permitir al usuario elegir la image de la galería de fotos.

Encontré el siguiente código de muestra de ViewController.swift :

Pero cuando inicio la aplicación, solo se muestra la pantalla en negro. ¿Que estoy haciendo mal? Otro código de ejemplo que encontré está en Objective-C, que no me ayuda.

Para Swift 3

1- Primero necesita agregar la siguiente key en info.plist

2- Tu controller de vista debe cumplir los siguientes protocolos UIImagePickerControllerDelegate, UINavigationControllerDelegate.

3: necesita declarar el UIImage que se utilizará para vincular la image devuelta / seleccionada

En caso de que no quiera tener un button aparte, aquí hay otra forma. Adjunto a un gesto en imageView, donde con un toque de image aparecerá una alerta con dos opciones. Tendrá la opción de elegir entre la galería / biblioteca de fotos o cancelar la alerta.
